Pre-care instructions
How to prepare for your appointment at Maya Skin & Brow Studio.
What you do in the week before your appointment affects the result as much as the appointment itself. If anything here is difficult for you, tell us before you book rather than on the day.
Before any brow or lip appointment
- Avoid alcohol and caffeine on the day of your appointment — both increase bleeding and make pigment harder to place.
- Do not take blood-thinning medication before your appointment unless it is prescribed. If it is prescribed, do not stop it — speak to your doctor, and tell us before booking.
- No waxing, threading or tinting of the brow area for a week beforehand.
- Stop retinoids, acids and exfoliating products on the area about a week beforehand.
- Avoid sun exposure, sunbeds and self-tanner. We cannot work on sunburnt or peeling skin.
- Leave at least two weeks between Botox or filler in the area and your appointment.
- Come with the area clean and free of makeup.
- If you get cold sores, lip work can trigger an outbreak. Speak to your doctor about preventive antiviral medication before your appointment.
Before a facial or skin treatment
- Pause retinoids, acids and strong actives for about a week.
- Come without makeup if you can.
- Avoid sun exposure and self-tanner beforehand.
- Do not book a resurfacing treatment immediately before an event — leave room for your skin to settle.
Tell us before you book
Some conditions and medications mean a treatment is not safe for you. Please read the permanent makeup eligibility list before booking brow or lip work.

The timings above are the standard ranges, not Maya’s own protocol. Please confirm the exact windows you want clients to follow, and whether you supply any pre-care product. Eyeliner instructions are deliberately excluded — that service is not offered.
